About Watchdoc

Watchdoc is a research-based documentary and audio visual production house established in 2009. For more than 15 years, Watchdoc has worked across complex social, political, and policy environments in Indonesia, producing documentary films and audio visual works that prioritize context, accuracy, and public responsibility. Watchdoc approaches documentary not merely as a visual format, but as a method of communication grounded in research—integrating long-term investigation, field-based work, and narrative construction to communicate complex realities with clarity and integrity. This approach has shaped Watchdoc’s work in public interest documentaries, institutional productions, and strategic audio visual communication for national and international partners.

Documentary as Method

For Watchdoc, documentary is a process.

Each project is developed through rigorous research, contextual analysis, and sustained engagement with the field. Visual production is understood as part of a broader methodological framework, one that emphasizes depth of understanding rather than surface representation.

By treating documentary as a research-based method, Watchdoc seeks to:

  • Present complex issues with clarity and contextual accuracy

  • Avoid oversimplification of social and institutional realities

  • Maintain ethical standards and public accountability

  • Produce narratives with long-term relevance and impact

This methodological approach underpins all of Watchdoc’s productions, from feature-length documentaries to institutional and educational audio visual works.

Watchdoc Today

Today, Watchdoc continues to develop documentary as a strategic communication method, bridging research, policy, and field-based realities with broader public audiences.

With extensive cross-sector experience and a research-driven approach, Watchdoc works with institutions and organizations that require careful, contextual, and accountable audio visual communication, ensuring that every production is not only visually compelling, but also grounded, ethical, and meaningful.
