Six of the seven sea turtles in the world are available in Indonesia. And from the six Sea turtles in Indonesia are available in Bajulmati beach, south Malang, East Java. Bajulmati Beach is the favorite place for sea turtles to lay their eggs in Bajulmati’s wide sandy area.
Initially, the Bajulmati area was a forest area later used as a residential area by humans. In 2020, around 57 female sea turtles were able to produce about 100 eggs. Bajulmati beach management was started in 2011; the location has been cleaned, managed, and cared for economic activity, especially tourism.
Banjulmati Beach is no longer a haven for laying eggs and turtles due to human activities and development. Green turtles are susceptible to their environment, and the movement of setting up tents and lighting makes green turtles reluctant to come to the beach to lay their eggs. The endangreded sea turtle habitats make Sutari concerned.
Sutari continues to maintain its success now so that there will be a generation of turtles in the future until Sutari collaborates with the surrounding community in tourism management. “I want to make turtle tours. So the lights around the beach are turned off and then there is a tour guide on guard. If there are turtles that want to lay eggs, tourists are summoned so they can witness firsthand how turtles lay eggs,” said Sutari in an interview opportunity in July 2022.
