Dayak Tomun Tribe is one of the ethnic communities in Lamandau Regency, Central Kalimantan. The people of Dayak Tomun live in pile houses made from Ulin wood (Eusideroxylon Zwageri) that grows around the villages. Besides the pile house, a smaller building functions as a joint rice barn. Dayak Tomun People live connected to nature and the forest as they keep the traditions of hunting, gathering food, planting seeds, and farming.

The forest is not only a place to gather the life necessities of the Dayak Tomun People. To keep the forest sustainable is to keep the survival of Dayak Tomun culture. One of the Dayak Tomun traditions that tie the human connection to Dayak Tomun Forest is Ikat Tongang. Ikat Tongang is the ethnic bracelet of the Dayak Tomun tribe. The bracelet is made from the Tongang root, which can be obtained from the sacred jungle that humans have not touched or managed.

Ikat Tongang is a tradition that begins with a ritual led by traditional elders who recites mantras as the ethnic and spiritual beliefs. And then, a string made by the root of Tongang is tied to the right wrist of the village’s visitor. Ikat Tongang tradition means that everyone who comes to the Lamandau will be part of the Dayak Tomun family, as it was united by the knot.
