Hundreds of masses from various regions in Indonesia who are members of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Union (SBMI) and a combination of eight organizations held an action to commemorate International Migrant Day on December 18, 2022. This action took place in front of the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation and Indonesian Ministry of Manpower buildings. They urged the two ministries to improve governance to protect migrant workers in the fisheries sector.
One of the Indonesian migrant workers in the fisheries sector is those who work as Fishing Boat Crews (AKP). The World Labor Organization (ILO) indicates that the working pattern that applies to GER in the fisheries sector is horrible and similar to inhumane forced labor patterns that violate human rights. It is based on 11 indicators set by the ILO for violence, fraud, isolation, restriction of movement, excessive overtime, withholding of wages, and debt bondage.
